In 2008, bestestdog resolves to... Give up kisses. Find a new steak. Stop sleeping with kshandra. Overcome my secret fear of parks. Backup my hedonism regularly. Give some chew toys to charity. Um. kshandra? |

my love language http://selectsmart.com/FREE/select.php#1 Quality Time--This can be expressed either through those intimate tete-a-tete discussions or via doing things together. It's possible to get a low score in this category because you have a strong preference for one form of Quality Time over another. #2 Touch--You want to give and/or receive affection physically. #3 Words of Affirmation--You need to hear praise to know you are loved and you may also prefer to express your affection verbally. Negative comments cut right to the bone. You want to hear that you're loved and how much and why. #4 Acts of Service--You prefer to show your love through favors and chores and doing things for others. You feel put-upon and unappreciated when your efforts are taken for granted. #5 Gifts--You are moved by presents and physical tokens of affection. It's the fact that someone is thinking about you enough to give you something that moves you. The objects are of secondary importance to the relationship and sentiment with which they were intended. Current Mood: loved |

harpes is spending the day with us because cortneyofeden needed to be gone for hours and hours today. I'm very happy to have her, because now zozoe has someone to chase, and I can get some rest. It's just exhausting to have to keep a young dog exercised and disciplined all day, and sometimes I just haven't got the energy. She hasn't figured out, though, that dogs sleep on the bed. She seems to prefer the hard wood of the hallway. Weird dog. She does understand that true gourmands suck down the juice from the tuna can like it's the last food on earth. We all worked together to catch a gopher -- or, rather, to scare the gopher into never coming back, because we never actually saw a gopher. ( Read more... ) |

Last week a dog named Zoe came to live with us. I thought she was just visiting, so I was a nice host and let her be pushy, but now it's been awhile and I'm so finished with that. I'm top dog again, and she'd better learn that. She's a danged good wrestler, nearly my match, and though Dad and Mom keep covering the wrestling mats with blankets every morning, we work hard and soon knock the blankets on the floor and can wrestle on bare mattress again. Here are some pictures of us in the yard. ( many many dog pics ) |

After Thanksgiving, the best holidays are the days after Thanksgiving, when leftover mashed potatoes and candied yams with gravy line my belly. |

I'm thinking of hosting a benefit event to help out the millions of dogs who don't get twice-baked potatoes (with bacon and cheese) and the melty ice cream at the bottom of the bowl for lunch. It's the right thing to do. |

help put Shunka's pelvis back together My parents aren't rolling in dough, but people have helped out our family when we've needed it, and some said, "Please pay it forward," so we do whenever we are able. Shunka ( moderngypsy's dog) was dognapped then run over, and requires pelvic reconstruction surgery. My people would sell pretty much everything, if they had to, if they could save my life without making it awful afterwards. They're my family, of course they would. moderngypsy is raffling off the shawl she finished making while in the waiting room at the veterinarian's office. It's beautiful, but even if it weren't . . . well, it's for Shunka. The shawl looks really lovely to curl up and sleep on. Maybe my Mama would let me sleep on it. (It's not like she has a choice, I choose my own beds. If you'd like a chance at the shawl, or if you want to help Shunka, please visit. I don't know her personally and can't vouch for her, but my Mama knows a lot of her friends, and trusts their judgement. |

So that's where you are, Goosey! I've been looking everywhere! ( Goosey escaped, obviously to visit Mars! There's my sweet Goosey, lying on the dirt on the left side of this photo.) |

Cats have that annoying sense of entitlement. I don't think it's my right to take my family's things! Because they're my things too! It's not their bed that I use. It's our bed! It's our chicken! And they left that bacon on the counter for me, just in case I was hungry later! |

There must be better things in life than roast beef scraps for breakfast, having Mom and Dad rub my belly and scritch my neck skin at the same time, and then have tuna/cheese melts for lunch . . . right? |

Wow, that was exciting! Mom and I just took a big walk down the street and around the west end of the school yard! There was dirt, and there were fencelines, and trees, and it was very exciting! In fact, it was so exciting that we were glad she brought two plastic bags with us! |
